Meet our Leaders

Click each section to get acquainted with the women's ministry leadership:

  • Becky Elkins

    Director of Women's Ministry

Becky was born and raised in Waynesboro.  She became a member of our Tab family in 2013 with her husband, Steve, and 4 children. Active for many years as a home-schooling mom, she originally served Tab for some years in Youth Ministry and still enjoys spending time sharing the love of Christ with our young members.

God called her officially to Women’s Ministry in 2018. Becky’s greatest joy is family but her family extends quite easily and naturally beyond the biological ties God has given her. In recent years, she has grown more enthusiastic about studying God’s holy and inspired Word, especially in communion with other Tab women, but you might also find her serving others on short-term mission trips or discovering Gospel truths in the garden or in the kitchen on any given day.  Indeed, her excitement for exploration and discovery includes scuba-diving and bee-keeping as well as intimate conversations with close friends and new acquaintances.

Currently, Becky is studying Genesis using Jen Wilkins’ God of Covenant guide and audio commentary. She also has active bookmarks in Melissa Kruger’s Growing Together, Dane Ortlund’s Gentle and Lowly, Hannah Anderson’s All That’s Good, and Tish Harrison Warren’s Liturgy of the Ordinary. When she has time, she also tries to listen when God calls her to “mother” her now all nearly adult children and one lovely daughter-in-law. She is “Mom” to Sam (and Selena), Will, Max and Alice. Her husband is her best friend and trustworthy partner but she also considers herself blessed by the Lord with many close friends, mentors and prayer partners as she endeavors to glorify God in her life.

Often when she prays for the women at Tab, she prays this prayer: “Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!” Psalm 34:3

  • Daza Craig

Daza grew up in Houston Texas in a Christian home. She made a profession of faith at the age of eight and was baptized. She married her high school sweetheart, Jack, and he served in both the Coast Guard and the Navy for over 20 years. During that time, she and her family moved 13 times and had three children born in Japan, Colorado and Russia. Trained as a librarian, she worked almost 30 years in medical, engineering, school and public libraries.

She has been a member of Tabernacle for 11 years.

She has a great desire for women to grow in their Christian walk and in relationship with one another in the Body of Christ. This year she has had the privilege of participating in both the Hebrews and James Bible studies at Tabernacle.

Her hobbies include reading, traveling, gardening and cross stitching. She just finished reading The Color of Compromise by Jemar Tisby and recommends it highly for its survey of the history of the white and black church in America. Recently retired, she hopes soon to make some trips to Hawaii, Australia, and Iceland with her husband of fifty years. She and Jack live just outside of Waynesboro on thirty acres and enjoy growing their own vegetables and grapes. Her 93-year-old mother lives in a cottage nearby and shares in family life.

Her life verse is Matthew 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteous; and all these things shall be added unto you.

  • Linda Dickerson

Linda thanks God every day for His Providence, mercy, and grace throughout her long, active life. Growing up as a Navy junior, Linda lived on several continents among many different cultures and religions.

Having always lived on a coast, Linda was not enthusiastic about settling in the mountains but eventually she realized the decision to raise their family in this wonderful Valley was the result of the Providence of God.

Linda graduated from Mary Washington College in 1970 and taught English at Fort Defiance before her son and daughter were born. Then she was a full-time mom for 16 years, helping with church and community activities. For the last 26 years Linda’s passion for the gospel has inspired her to teach WRE (Weekday Religious Education) at Cassell and Clymore Elementary Schools, planting seeds among the children there, most of whom do not regularly attend a church.

She has been a member at Tab since 2003, making many wonderful friends and benefitting from the inspired preaching and teaching. In 2019, God blessed Linda with a beautiful granddaughter, Leah, the first child of her son Hank and his wife Lauren, who live in northern VA. When she is not visiting her loved ones in Centreville, teaching the Bible to public school children, or participating with the local Republican Party, she is diligently serving her Tab family in any number of other ways. We are blessed to have her on our team!

  • Cindy Jones

Cindy and her husband, Chris, joined our church in 2019, because they loved Tabernacle’s solid Bible teaching and its passion to serve others.  They have three adult sons, Charlie, Colin and Caleb, and a daughter-in-law, Ashleigh.

Cindy grew up in Maine, but started her family in Chris’s home state of Connecticut.  The Jones family moved to  Stuarts Draft thirteen years ago and absolutely love the beauty of the Shenandoah Valley.

Cindy has been a teacher for over thirty years and currently teaches fifth grade language arts, history, and Bible at Grace Christian School.  She enjoys art, reading, gardening, playing guitar, and caring for her dogs and cat.

Sharing Christ’s love through prayer and service to others is central to Cindy’s faith.  She finds the inspiration to step out of her comfort zone through 2 Timothy  1:7 “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power, love and self-control. “  She is excited to promote local and global missions through her work on the Women’s Ministry Committee.

  • Kim Richardson

Kim and her husband, David, joined our family at Tab in 2013. She has enthusiastically served on the Women’s Leadership Team since 2019, coordinating to make Bible Studies available for all women at Tab and helping in many other ways to keep our team organized.

Kim loves God’s Word and enjoys reading it in community with others.  She loves gathering to discuss God’s Word and learning ways to apply it to her life and she loves to spend time with God praying for her sisters at Tab.

Kim and David were married in 2013. They both work full-time at UVA hospital; Kim’s duties are in Finance while David works directly with patients as a Respiratory Therapist.  Between them, they have four adult children and two grandchildren.  They especially enjoy it when the grandkids come to visit them on their small farm in Stuarts Draft. With horses, goats, sheep and chickens, Kim nurtures her love for God’s beautiful and marvelous creation and enjoys sharing the joy with most anyone who wants to visit.

She also enjoys gardening, reading, Christian music, cooking, fellowship time with family and her extended Tabernacle family.

She has many favorite Bible verses, however Exodus 14:14 is one she turns to often, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

  • Stephanie Whitehill

Stephanie Whitehill is a wife, mother, and photographer living in downtown Waynesboro, the “Tree Streets”. She and her husband, David, are passionate about maintaining an open door at their house, affectionately called the “Pink Palace” for its lovely salmon hue. Most days Stephanie can be found at home taking care of their two young, energetic boys, Sam and Miles.

When not managing life at the “Pink Palace”, Stephanie loves hiking in the beautiful mountains surrounding the Shenandoah Valley, which often feature in her professional portrait photographs. Stephanie deeply enjoys fellowship with God in creation and reflects His creative nature in the kitchen too, baking (and eating) many things, but especially breads, scones, and muffins.  Together, she and David enjoy gathering people together in their home, loving them through food and fellowship and friendship.

Indeed, her role in Women’s Ministry at Tab focuses on the fellowship of the saints as she actively organizes “events” to gather us together.  They joined our church family in 2017.  An introvert at heart, Stephanie knows the value of building authentic community and friendships with those that God has placed in her life. After reading The Gospel Comes with a House Key by Rosaria Butterfield, she is confident that God will give her rest when she needs it, and the strength to pursue those around her in love, with open arms.

Matthew 25:31-40 challenges her to rethink what Biblically loving others really means.

A Prayer for Winter...

LORD, thank you for the beauty of the sparkling snow, a reminder of how You cover over the dirt and grime of the world with the clean and pure contrast of Jesus.

Thank you for the bright winter days that shine Light though it is so very cold.  Keep our hearts warm with the truth that You are our Only Hope.

Holy Spirit, be our Help when the cold blows through and the early darkness closes in.

May Your Name be praised as You care to walk this season with us.

From Becky's heart...

A Message from Director of the Women's Ministry

December 2021

Power tools! I am the proud owner of a set of shiny, bright yellow DeWalt power tools. I don’t remember exactly when they came into my possession, but my husband bought them for me. Generally, he is not ashamed that his wife does a good bit more of the housekeeping than he does, and that typically includes “simple” repairs, interior painting, picture hanging, furniture re-hab and sometimes a DIY project that requires lumber and hardware, saw-blades and safety glasses.  It is also not uncommon to find me running other power tools outside. My chainsaw and weed eater get a lot of action when they’re needed.

My DeWalt power tools consist of 4 hand-held pieces:  a drill driver, a heavy flashlight, a reciprocating saw and an impact wrench.  Having the right tool for the job makes all the difference in the world! I know you know what I’m talking about, whether it’s in the kitchen or in the craft drawer or in the office. The right tools for the job at hand potentially make the job easier, more successful and less time-consuming.  They help make me feel capable, creative, and even powerful. Even if I’m not using the tools, just having them gives me a sense that I’m prepared to accomplish important things if I choose. In fact, I have not ever used my impact wrench, but I sure do love the idea of using it. I mean, just saying its name sounds impactful, right?

By far, the most useful tool in the bag for my purposes is the drill driver. With exhilarating hope and anticipation, today I envision using it to complete many small jobs that have lately been added to my to-do list, the things that have been waiting for a free afternoon with the DeWalt. Optimistic, I collect the necessary drill bits and hardware and other odd tools for my work ahead. The DC720 cordless drill driver feels heavy in my hand.  I carry it pointing up with my finger hovering over the trigger and the heft of it makes me aware of the strong muscles in my arm, my biceps and my deltoids.  The drill quickly becomes an extension of me. I am invincible now!

This is the moment when everything goes wrong and the plans for my entire afternoon shift significantly. I pull the trigger expecting power and speed and lights. Yes, it is supposed to shine a powerful beam of light on the exact spot where I need to drill that hole. More importantly, it is supposed to vigorously rotate the drill bit that has been specially chosen for this particular hole, which I need more than anything else right now. Nothing else can be done until I have this hole drilled, straight and true. There’s no power. The battery is dead. It will not even re-charge.

Power tools without power are not, in reality, helpful tools at all! Likewise, Christians who are not frequently and continually trusting in the power of the Gospel are not, in reality, helpful Christians.  I am not talking about earning salvation through helpful work for the Kingdom, because that is not what the Gospel teaches us.

On the other hand, after God blesses us with salvation through His son, Jesus, He honors us with the presence of the Holy Spirit to work in us and through us to help others see and hear and know this wonderful triune God. If our batteries are not re-charged with Truth and Love and Praise from God, Himself, how can we expect to be “productive” in our Kingdom work. The Body of Christ, His beloved Church, which for us is manifest in the particular people called together to be Tabernacle, is one essential place for us to plug in and receive (and give) His mercy, His grace, His power. It is a joy and a humbling privilege to be a part of Christ’s Body with each of you.

I pray this Advent, you feel likewise.
